It only took a year since Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves was first revealed to allow people to play the game from the comfort of their own homes, but the time is finally almost here.
SNK is launching the Open Beta Test for Fatal Fury later tonight, and here's everything you need to help you get started on your journey through the City of the Wolves.
Starting with the times, the beta is set to begin at midnight PST on February 20.
You'll have essentially five whole days to play online to your hearts content since the servers aren't set to close until Monday, February 24, at 11:59 p.m. PST.
The beta is available on all of the same platforms as the full game will be at launch, so PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and PC players via Steam are going to get in on the action.
And since it's an open beta, that means you don't have to register for anything. Just download the trial from your store of choice, and you should be good to go.
Fatal Fury Open Beta Times
• PST: February 20 12 a.m. – February 24 23:59 p.m.• CET: February 20 9 a.m. – February 24 8:59 a.m.• JST: February 20 5 p.m. – February 25 4:59 p.m.
As far as we know, Fatal Fury's beta should include cross-platform play between systems since it's been a confirmed feature for the game from the start.
SNK has also confirmed the minimum PC specs needed to run City of the Wolves, and it doesn't appear too taxing on lower settings.
Although the actual beta client doesn't appear to be live to download yet, we know Fatal Fury's trial may take up around 16 GB of space thanks to the PC specs too.
Characters
There will be 8 characters in total to choose from throughout the entirety of the beta with a mix of classic Fatal Fury stars, Garou standouts and a couple of newcomers.
Terry Bogard, Mai Shiranui, Rock Howard, Hotaru Futaba, Preecha, B. Jenet, Vox Reaper and the newly announced Kain R. Heinlein will make up the trial roster.

City of the Wolves features both a classic Arcade Style and new Smart Style control options with the latter operating similarly to Street Fighter 6's Modern controls using dedicated special and combo buttons.
Here's the available move lists for everyone but Kain, Hotaru and B. Jenet for both control schemes.
Modes and Features
Since this is just a beta test, players won't have access of course to everything the full release will have to offer in terms of modes and features.
Ranked Match, Casual Match and Room Match will be your main three options to pick from, so you'll have the option to go against the random online pool or against people of your choosing.
There is also going to be a Tutorial mode included as well though we don't yet really know what all that entails — and it doesn't sound like there's going to be a Training mode.
Any progress made will not be carried over to the full release, which is also to be expected.
Gameplay
As for the gameplay, just about any 2D fighting game player should feel right at home with Fatal Fury's four-button setup plus buttons for REV Guard and Throw.
The REV System is City of the Wolves' main mechanics base that is a bit similar to Street Fighter 6's Drive System, except it flows in the opposite way.
Using REV Actions takes your REV Meter from 0% all the way to 100% where characters will then enter an overheated state where they'll have less options at their disposal (and are vulnerable to guard breaks).
Fans of defensive mechanics have a lot to chew on as well between Just Defense, Hyper Defense, Guard Cancels and REV Guards.
There are a good bit of mechanics to learn, which you can find more about in the system mechanics trailer and breakdown.
SNK also has an official play guide up on the Fatal Fury website that goes over the systems and inputs quite well.
Fighting game players are in for hopefully one heck of a long weekend with one of the most anticipated titles of the year.
