BIOGRAPHY

The whole race of Saiyans is dedicated to battling. These warriors were traveling across galaxies and conquered planets to then sell them profitably. Demolish a civilization? Yeah, if it’s worthless for Saiyans!
It’s a good thing to have this race almost entirely exterminated (no one wants those guys flying around). But those few remained still keep their battling nature. They enjoy fighting (which is great for our gaming genre), and they have lots of unusual features to become even mightier and more dangerous. One of them is the ability to transform into Super Saiyans, kind of a superior form for fighting. Goku has it. And Vegeta certainly has it too — he never wants to let his rival be better at anything.
Vegeta is a prince of Saiyans. When his home planet was destroyed, he still continued the business of his people — yep, that thing about conquering planets. But then, he and Nappa received info about Dragon Balls. They decided to get those magical artifacts and wish for immortality. In this role of an evil guy, Vegeta fought against Goku and his friends. It cost them some significant effort to actually defeat Vegeta and protect the Earth from him.
Later, the fight for Dragon Balls continued on another planet, and Vegeta started showing the first signs of personality changes. He did not attack Krillin and Gohan, even having a perfect opportunity for this. And then, he united with Goku to fight against Frieza.
After quite a few episodes of the Dragon Ball anime, Vegeta is not a villain anymore. He is still very arrogant and often underestimates his opponents. But he is an Earth protector now, one of the Z Fighters.
So, what about that Super Saiyan form? It’s not a common thing for Saiyans to achieve this transformation. It comes from ancient legends, and Vegeta aimed to develop this unique ability. He wasn’t the first one who did this, though.
When Goku was desperate in a fight against Frieza, seeing his friends murdered, this powerful emotion triggered the Super Saiyan transformation. Vegeta experienced the same kind of emotion just from the fact that Kakarot (he calls Goku by his Saiyan name) can perform this transformation, and he, the prince himself, is still unable.
It turned out that Saiyans should have some specific number of S-Cells in their body to become Super Saiyans. First, powerful emotions are needed for this, but then, the strong will of a warrior can do the trick. Vegeta can become a Super Saiyan whenever he wants to, significantly boosting his fighting skills.
Vegeta (Super Saiyan) in the story of Dragon Ball FighterZ
Theoretically, Super Saiyans are better in fights. That’s why this form is primary for Vegeta and Goku matches of the Dragon Ball FighterZ story mode. In the cutscenes, you see Vegeta in his default form with black hair, but if you pick him for a battle, he gathers energy and transforms into Super Saiyan Vegeta.
Practically, the advantage of Super Saiyans is not obvious in the game (otherwise, it would be imbalanced). Basic Vegeta is pretty good at DBFZ fights, but he is a DLC character and can’t fight in the story. Also, Vegeta can transform into an even more superior form of Super Saiyan Blue. If you develop him up to Level 40, you will have Vegeta SSGSS instead of Super Saiyan fighting in the story matches.
Playstyle of Vegeta (Super Saiyan) in DBFZ
He is a pretty versatile character, suitable for both beginners and advanced players. Neutrals of Super Saiyan Vegeta are solid but have rather short range. His ki blasts might feel weaker than the beam of Super Saiyan Goku, but they are actually good for a zoning game. Supers of this character are effective and easy to use.
Being a well-rounded guy usually has its downside, and that’s true for Vegeta Super Saiyan as well. He has tools for most situations, but none of them is exceptional. He can’t shine especially bright with devastating damage, super long combos, or anything of that sort.
